This year on my birthday, a word came to me very strongly. It doesn’t happen every year, but this time it felt especially poignant. The word is…. EMBRACE. Often we get stuck wasting our energy on things we have no control over. When we worry about the past or become anxious about the future, it can prevent us from being present in the NOW. As the famous quote goes: “Accept what is, let go of what was, have faith in what will be.” This reminder makes so much sense to me right now. Except with more thought, the word “Accept” seems moderately passable to me; like just moving on or barely getting by. I need a word with more conviction. So this year I’m upgrading the word “Accept” to the word EMBRACE. "To embrace something" means to enthusiastically accept it, often with a positive attitude. “Embrace" implies a happy, playful or eager acceptance of something, often something challenging or unfamiliar. It also means to hug someone special. 🤗 - I love that! As I look out at the current state of the world, I connect deeper to nature and my essence as I embrace the current challenges in my own life with open arms. I then look ahead to embracing new priorities with a deeper focus on my music creation process. (This is so exciting!) And now I’m feeling into the most fulfilling year ahead. 🥰 I’m truly grateful for your support and your friendship. 🙏 Bring it on; let’s do this! #wisdomwednesday✨ #newyearresolutions #thetimeisnow❤️

In March I played two different weddings at The Fountain of Youth in Saint Augustine, Florida. The first one, booked with @jaxstrings, I got to play with a great violinist. Weddings often have curveballs involved and a particular challenge we faced that day was that the venue's main power outlet was broken. Between the DJ providing sound and myself, we had to string together over 150 feet of extension cords in order to make it to the closest outlet so I could plug in my keyboard. And as a result of that limitation, we wound up playing in the back of the ceremony instead of the front corner. It ultimately worked out fine, however it was a lesson in preparing for future events. I mean, I always carry an extension cord with me, but needing 150 feet is definitely unusual. Two weeks later I was booked for another wedding at the exact same location through @coscelebrations and was teamed up with @dj_marcbourgeois. Since I had just been there, I alerted the team to the power issue so we could be better prepared. @dj_coreyp took the initiative to lend us his awesome new battery, the BLUETTI AC180. I can't rave enough about this gear. It was easy to use and when it's fully charged, it lasts for over 100 hours (depending on how much you need to plug in). Two hours after using it for my Nord Grand keyboard, the battery still read that it had 99 hours left! Marc did some research and alerted me to the fact that it was on sale for a great price, so we just bought one ourselves and I couldn't be more pleased. Now I can literally play anywhere; including remote locations like the beach or woods! Also it will be great to have for camping trips and during hurricane season in case we lose power! 👊

Sometimes when I'm booked to play a wedding by another company, I'm collaborating with other musicians(s) that I may be meeting for the first time. So once we are all set up, we'll aim to have a soundcheck and if possible a quick run through of the most important songs for the ceremony. The stress level can often be high in these moments depending on any snags that arise during setup. But as professionals, we are used to getting curveballs thrown our way and do our best to handle them with a positive attitude. This is when our skills honed as musicians can be a great asset . Communication, multitasking, improvising, patience, audio and spatial awareness, creativity, quick decision making, and of course, dropping your ego completely. These are not just music skills; they are life skills. When the officiant says, "Please rise" for the bride, we are ready to bring some magic and joy to the most cherished moment of the couple's lives thus far. (No pressure!) Cue: "Canon in D" (but of course!) Pictured: a recent wedding at @foyflorida in Saint Augustine. Booked by @jaxstrings and paired with Brian Griffin on violin, who I just met that day! #weddingwednesday
